The Sforza Castle and Leonardo da Vinci’s Legacy

Sforza Castle

The Sforza Castle is a symbol of Milan, it was built by Francesco Sforza, Duke of Milan. He was born in a noble family, friend of the Visconti family and De’ Medici family. He called Filarete, the architect who designed the Ca’ Grande.

The most prosperous period was during Ludovico’s dukedom. Ludovico hired Leonardo Da Vinci to work at the Sforza castle.

Leonardo da Vinci was only 30 years old and Milan was known of its production of military arms and equipment.

Leonardo da Vinci was involved in different projects as a painter, sculptor, engineer, architect and even master of ceremonies.

He did amazing artworks while he was living in Milan, for example the last supper at Santa Maria delle Grazie or Sala delle Asse inside the Sforza Castle. Sala delle Asse is a room that was meant to be used during the hot days, in this room Leonardo painted an open space fill with trees.
